He was born into a large family in Poland and began his art education at the Academy of Visual Cultures in Warsaw. During his time as a student, he studied many different artistic styles, including Impressionism, Symbolism and Cubism. Makowski was best known for his landscape paintings, which often contain abstract elements and modernist forms. His style expresses a deep sense of human loneliness and is often influenced by Polish folklore and culture. He is also known for his portraits and other figure paintings, which often have a strong emotional feel.
