    Who was John Frederick Kensett?

    John Frederick Kensett, born 22 March 1816 in Connecticut, United States, died 14 December 1872 in New York, United States, was an American landscape painter and engraver. His signature works are landscape paintings whose clear light and serene surfaces celebrate transcendental qualities of nature and are associated with Luminism. His works are a series of paintings in which coastal headlands sway against glass-smooth water.
