Thomas Dewing (1851-1938) was an impressionist painter who is best known for his portraits and still images. He was born and raised in Newburyport, Massachusetts. He studied art at the Académie Julian in Paris during the 1880s and was inspired by French Impressionism. Dewing used light and shadow to create subtle and delicate compositions. His works have been exhibited in various museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
