Jozef Israëls (1824-1911) was a Dutch painter best known for his subtle and detailed scenes that often depict Dutch seasonal motifs. Israëls began his career as a draftsman and illustrator, but after studying at the Academy of Arts in Amsterdam, he turned to painting.
